If you want to go anywhere on the water, be involved in predator trapping, have a good coffee or just hang out with the coolest people on earth then find these two. Johan and Joyce (they have last names, but really they are first name people) run the Wairaurahiri Jet, the Lake Hauroko Tours launch, Jet boat trips on the Waiau based at the Clifden suspension bridge and the Good Mood Food caravan also at the suspension bridge.  Joyce also manages hundreds of predator traps over a large area of Fiordland and is heart and soul involved in conservation at many levels.

Wairaurahiri Jet

​

WJet.co.nz is the gateway to awesome adventure in Southern Fiordland. The Wairaurahiri is New Zealand's steepest navigable river and this amazing trip was commercially pioneered by Johan and a couple of others around 25 years ago. No-one else knows this river like Johan and no-one else has his safety record or sense of humour. It is truly a wild ride straight down a fast flowing river all the way from the stunningly picturesque Lake Hauroko to the sea. Twenty-seven kilometres with no quiet water, just downhill all the way.

Johan drops you at the beach then disappears back up river a couple of hundred meters to make lunch while you wander along the beach and up through the forest to Waitutu Lodge. After a delicious bar-b-que lunch its back up the river with a commentary from Johan that reflects his long history with this stretch of water from well before he ran commercial tours. Ask him about the use of jet boats for wild deer recovery along this river.

This is a full day trip and no-one has ever mentioned the price after the experience, it is such good value for money.

 

Lake Hauroko Tours

Do you need to get to or from the Dusky track? Or maybe you want to be dropped off at one of the many creeks along the way to begin your own off-track adventure.  Joyce will take you in Namu her custom-built launch. Scheduled trips exist for Dusky track connections but Namu can be chartered for sightseeing, fishing, hunting, tramping or any other transport required on Lake Hauroko.

Specially designed to handle Lake Hauroko’s legendary sudden weather and wave changes Namu and Joyce will get you in and out safely.

 

Southern Scenic Jet

On a time schedule that doesn’t allow for full emersion Fiordland ? Then a quick spin on the Waiau will give you a taste of what you missed. Based at the historic Clifden swing bridge you can explore the Waiau river and the thrill of jetboating followed by a cup of coffee at the Good Mood Food Cafe and be on your way again within the hour.
